Mortgage Firm Pays Almost $2 Million in Back Wages

Following an
investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, Allied
Home Mortgage Corp. in Houston
has paid $1,855,519 to 588 branch managers, loan officers, loan processors, and
clerks who were denied overtime pay. The probe found that Allied paid these
employees, who performed inside sales work, on a commission-only basis and didn’t
compensate them for overtime hours worked. The government says that the company
cooperated with the investigation by conducting a self-audit and has agreed to
comply with overtime law in the future.
