Make Training a Continuous Process
Training does not end after the session or presentation is complete. The continuous process of safety training involves continually observing employees and reminding them of safe workplace practices. Employees should also be encouraged to monitor others for safe practices. The safety program should provide guidelines that supervisors and employees can use for reporting and correcting hazards as well as a system for recognizing employees for exemplary safety practices.
You can reinforce employee learning after training ends by providing job performance aids, testing skills and knowledge three months after training, and observing on-the-job performance and providing feedback. Follow-up training can be conducted through the use of phone conferences, web seminars, self-paced courses, and other communication methods.
Use the Continuous Improvement Model
- Plan your strategy.
- Collect data.
- Analyze the data.
- Identify program strengths and weaknesses.
- Identify solutions.
- Implement action plan.
- Measure improvement.

Trainers themselves use a continuous improvement process. You use input from evaluations to improve your future performance. You update materials to keep them current and continue to improve your knowledge of the subject matter. The OSHA website has free training resources you can use to update materials and keep your knowledge up to date.
