It took an airplane flight for a communication executive’s inappropriate tweet to go viral and get her into trouble with her employer.
The (former) senior director of corporate communications of an Internet company was fired after sending an offensive tweet on her way to South Africa. By the time she landed, the Internet was up in arms about the post, and #HasJustineLandedYet had already started to trend online.
No doubt, when she turned off airplane mode, she realized the impact of her tweet. It’s a testament to how fast the social media community can spread information, and yet another reminder of the importance of having an effective social media policy in place.
It appears that her Twitter handle has since been deactivated.
