Training Is Effective Only with Motivated Employees

You may give the most professional and informed training session on the planet, but if your employees aren’t sufficiently motivated to do good work, they won’t receive the full benefits of your training. In a BLR webinar entitled ‘Worker Safety: How To Implement Truly Effective Training That Reduces Injuries, Costs, and Lawsuits,’ Michael D. Lawrence of Summit Safety Technologies pointed out that the answer to the question of how to motivate and engage employees is locked away in the employees, and in their values, beliefs and needs.
Each of us has a unique set of motivational drivers. Unless a leader can align with these, it will be difficult to motivate and engage employees over the long term.
Work must appeal to an employee’s self-interest. If it is not in their interest employees are not likely to want to do it, or perhaps they will not continue to do it.

Think you have no time to train? Think again. BLR’s 7-Minute Safety Trainer helps you fulfill key OSHA-required training tasks in as little as 7 minutes. Try it out, and also receive the FREE report, 50 Tips for More Effective Safety Training. Try it at no cost and see!

To find out what motivates employees, talk to them. Use an employee engagement survey to measure the key indicators that generate employee motivation and engagement.
